Op shop ninja. Sacrifice. Nihilism.

Things that have happened recently.

  • I got offered a place in the teaching Grad Dip. For too long I have fought the inevitable - my genetic inheritance. The time was nigh to give into fate and accept what is mine by right.  I'll be stalking the quadrangle telling surly teens to tuck their shirts in before you can say "Jack Robinson!"
  • I bought some cool shizz from my ole favourite op shop including a Sacha Drake dress that fits me perfectly for $12, a small orange Le Creuset frying pan for $4 and miscellaneous children's things. I am an op shop ninja.
  •  I had my last day of work for 2014.  Well, PAID WORK. I mean MY WHOLE LIFE IS WORK, RIGHT MOMS? Talk about SACRIFICING MYSELF ON THE ALTAR OF MOTHERHOOD!
  • I have undertaken 99% of my Christmas shopping. This is quite an achievement for me.
  • I am SICK TO DEATH of hearing people whinge about having to manage part time workers. SUCK IT UP PEOPLE! It's the 21st century dudes. Do you want to pick my children up for me, stay home and wipe their bums for me? Or pay the mortgage for me? No? Then shove it. Ugh.
  • I am sick of archaic inflexible workplaces incapable of entering the MODERN WORLD and UTILISING their resources efficiently and remaining TRAPPED in 20th century mentalities that go no way to FURTHER THE CAUSE OF THE WORKING MOTHER. Not mentioning any names. Ha.
  •  The cat shaving project appears to have been a success. Apart from how she looks like a bit of an alien. No hairballs. YES!
  • M requested a book about Nihilism for Christmas. Which made me think of this bit from The Big Lebowski.  Ve believe in nussink.

  •  I met up with the lovely Caitlin from Mother Down Under and her little chap C and we had a paddle in the water at the beach near us. You should visit her blog and enter her giveaways. They are THE BOMB DIGGITY.
  • In a surprising twist, we ate spaghetti bolognese for dinner last night. The novelty!
  • My mum found a dress at a second hand shop and posted it to me. She knew I would like it because I had cleverly blogged about things I coveted in this post! See! It pays to be specific.
  • I got my eyebrows tinted which, I am sad to say, was a bit of a mistake. I look a bit like this;

           Let's hope they fade.

How are your Xmas shopping trips progressing? Do you have eyebrows? Any exciting meals planned? DO TELL!

  1. Congratulations on all of the above - well perhaps not the eyebrow tinting.

  2. Lol - I have never tinted my eyebrows and as a blonde I doubt I'll try...I think I'd look silly with such a strong eyebrow, but I do love a good wax (I can't be bothered to pluck my own).

    1. There's nothing like a good wax. To be honest, a few days later and my eyebrows look ok. I have mousie natural hair and brows and dye it quite dark, so the eyebrows are always a bit too light. I think it will be ok. Gave me a bloody shock the first 24 hours tho.

  3. You raise some very good issues Slapdash.

Luffed the bit about people being emotionally confronted about working part time. My employer is very supportive of the fact that I don't work Mondays, but I know this arrangement doesn't suit everyone.

The way I see it is that we all have obligations outside the workplace but Mother's obligations are just a bit more visible.

Nice going with the op shop and the spag bol. Pop round for a crochet lesson any time xx

    1. A crochet lesson would be 11/10. If you are down here at your beach getaway over Xmas let me know, I can swing by if you like. Would be noice for sprogs to play in sand. Managers are often freaked out by part time but I am sick of hearing about it. Grow up people.

  4. Congrats on the uni place - your flippant use of the term "quadrangle" does indicate that you have fought your true destiny for far too long! In other news I will be staying at my mum's place at Tweed heads on and off throughout December and late Jan. I have a cunning plan that involves you and the fam coming downfor a visit and maybe even staying the night (we have loads of bedrooms). It has been far too long x

  5. I always loved having part-timers work for me more people to call on if there was someone out sick!
Bit jealous of you + Caitlin + the beach (I live too far from everyone so sad).
Think you'll be a fab teacher.

    1. Yes! I don't know why more people can't think outside the box part-time wise. I would love to hang out with you. You have to come to QLd STAT!

  7. Your eyebrows do not look like that! Although I do love that photo...I think I have been watching too much Project Runway and their avant garde looks are infiltrating my subconscious.
My best garage sale find ever was a set of three Le Creuset sauce pans with their lids for $20.00.
And I have not watched the Big Lebowski since college...must watch it again soon.
Enjoy your holidays! I hope to see you again soon.
And PS C is still asking for that nappy back...things are not looking good in terms of him giving his friends Christmas presents!

    1. I am afraid C might not get that nappy back. It has gone the way of all good nappies. However I can probably provide a replacement. Also, that garage sale score IS THE BEST EVER! SO JEALOUS!

  8. For a bit of fictional nihilism M should read Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev. If he hasn't already. Or you can tell him that you won't be forced to get him anything.

    1. I'll ask him. And I think he is enjoying the humorous element to requesting a book on nihilism for Christmas. Hahaha!

  9. It sounds like you are winning at life, bravo! Well done on the job, and also on the Christmas shopping. Thanks for the clip, The Big Lebowski is one of my all time favourite films. Those nihilists crack me up, but not as much as Maude or Bunny Lebowski. Or the Dude's landlord. I often get my brows tinted because if I don't they are virtually invisible, but then I am left with serious frau-brow for a little while until they calm down.
    xx

  11. Oh gorgeous lady, I have BLACK As eyebrows (bro) and Bert is jealous of them so don't even get me started. And big moon to those who hate having to work around us part time workers who only do it so we can survive in an economic environment that favours the rich WAY too much! Yay for your mumma sending you a dress. Even bigger yay that we are going to catch up soon! xx
