That is, indeed, the question.
So I've decided to write a blog. Not very original of me, I hear you say. I know. But I'm doing it anyway. I've been struggling with a whole lot of doubt about whether to do it, or not. Because I'm sure everyone is desperate to be privy to the inner workings of my mind, here is a sort of re-enactment of the conversations I've been having with myself about said question. Imagine a devil vs. angel on shoulder type scenario...
Devil: "Everyone in the whole damn world writes a blog, you will be just another boring mummy blogger and no-one will read it".
Angel: "It depends how you view it. Even if everyone has a blog, that doesn't make it less legitimate as a hobby. No-one worries about how many other people already do cross-stitch, scrapbooking or, I don't know, play weird World of Dragony War Doom Craft type games. They do it anyway, or even because other people do it, because then they are part of a community. Also, if you are worried about nobody reading it, don't be. Do it for the sake of doing it, not for someone else to read. Do it because you like to write and think about writing all the time, because you need a creative outlet and because you think you're a bit funny. And because you like reading other people's blogs and are interested in their lives. Also, who cares!?"
Devil: "People might read it! And hate it! And write mean things about me!"
Angel: "Whoah there, weren't you just saying that no-one would read it? Take a chill pill there lady. Don't get ahead of yourself. Firstly, probably no-one will read it, at least for a while. And secondly, if they do start reading it, that's a good thing! And if they are mean, just delete their comments. Hell yes! Thirdly, who cares!!??"
Devil: "I have no time!"
Angel: "Just write when you can!"
Devil: "Umm...."
Angel: "Do it!"
Devil: "But...umm.."
Angel: "Do it, damn your eyes! I'm a busy little cherub, I've got things to do, I'm supposed to be appearing in a vision to a Mexican peasant in twenty minutes!"
Devil: "OK".
Angel: "Good, that's sorted then. I'm off to Mexico. Hopefully I'll have time for a margarita afterwards..."
So there you have it. Who can argue with that logic? Not I.
I love reading mummy blogs!!!!! Listen to the angel :)
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Annyce! I think the angel won this round :-)
DeleteGlad you started it! You're way more prolific than I could ever be. (Who isn't? says you!)
ReplyDeleteVerbal diarrhoea, some would say. Thank you for commenting Sulky! Very exciting. I love your blog.
DeleteI'm glad the angel won!
ReplyDeleteHa! Me too!
DeleteI was totally clueless about the whole blogosphere out there when I started, or even that 'Mummy blogging' was a 'thing'. If I had known what I was getting myself in for I might never have started and spared a few people reading my drivel, but meh, too late.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm glad you listened to that angel. You always make me giggle. Love it. xo
Drivel shmivel! You make ME giggle!
DeleteThis is timely given your recent crisis of faith, don't you think? Pretty sure you didn't have all those followers the first time either. Keep going, Slapdash!
ReplyDeleteThanks dude!
DeleteDude. You were great from the start! You suck. xx
ReplyDeletePfft Miss Kim I am mediocrity personified x
DeleteI had the same feelings before I pressed publish on mine too. It's hard putting your thoughts and feelings out there for the world to read. Go the angel!
ReplyDeleteYay the angel!
DeleteOh your start was fab and just like the rest of your blogs since, very entertaining, funny and very YOU :) x
ReplyDeleteOh thank you my friend x
DeleteYour blog is pretty spesh. Glad you listened to the good angel. X

ReplyDeleteOh thanks Kirsty.
DeleteI love your blog. yay for starting
ReplyDeleteYou are very kind K x
DeleteThis is fantastic Sarah! I think I had a lot of similar conversations with my inner angel and devil at first. Just after I'd started I saw an episode of How I Met My Mother where Barney described blogs as 'so 1990s' and I thought - oh well, I've never been much of a trendsetter! Glad you kept going with yours :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you did yours too!!! That Barney, what does he know anyway!
DeleteYeah who gives a stuff about the devil voice! Just write for the sake of writing... write as a gift, either to others or yourself... it doesn't matter if the intended recipient even reads it, the fact that you do it is cool.
ReplyDeleteOk, I've MISSED you so I decided to come right back and find out why you started blooging and here it is! Don't tell me the voices in your head have stopped talking to you!
ReplyDeleteI'll make you a deal - I'll bath the dog (which he HATES ... but he smells ...) if you write a blog post ...
